RAINN carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. RAINN is the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S.
According to RAINN, sexual violence is a serious problem in the U.S. One in four girls and one in six boys are sexually abused before they turn 18, and each day another 1,000 children become victims of child abuse and neglect; at least half of these children are under age 12 and most are abused by someone they know.
“Don’t be a victim. Be informed and learn to prevent sexual violence from occurring.”
RAINN organizes prevention programs and has developed a Culture of Consent program to reduce the incidence of sexual violence. RAINN also conducts research to increase our understanding of the problem of sexual violence and supports its victims. RAINN works with local, state, and federal agencies to provide care for survivors and organize programs that reach out to survivors who do not seek help on their own.
RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization, has a number of initiatives dedicated to reducing sexual violence and improving the lives of sexual assault survivors. The center’s website tackles a wide-range of topics related to rape—from stalking and date rape to child abuse and other forms of domestic violence—and provides helpful, easy-to-understand information for those who may have been sexually assaulted. The site also includes a Resources section linking users to local support groups and counselors.
RAINN also holds a number of programs throughout the year, such as Rape Prevention and Awareness Month and I Love My Body Week.
Over the course of RAINN’s history, it has organized numerous initiatives to encourage awareness of sexual violence. One such program is Rape Prevention Month, which occurs each year in October. During this one week, RAINN places images and messages related to rape prevention on billboards across the country.
Since 1994, RAINN has distributed more than 30 million Rape Prevention Education Facts, an educational pamphlet created to help children under 8 understand the signs of sexual abuse and how to intervene when they notice these signs. The pamphlet encourages readers to be “alert” and “informed.
