Bhanu Choudhrie has mounted thousands of feet up in the Himalayas with her high-altitude mountaineering team – Makalu Adventure Company. Her idea for this blog post was to talk about how being involved in different activities, such as climbing and snowboarding, helps you stay healthy, motivated and productive during your university years.
As a member of the Makalu Adventure Company, we spend our weekends away on expeditions. Fresh air and exercise help you keep motivated in university – but this isn’t always easy to achieve. When I first started climbing with the team, Bhanu Choudhrie amazed by how high the mountains were and how beautiful they looked.
It’s not just exciting to rise; it is also an extremely good exercise that strengthens your muscles and cardiovascular system. However, many other aspects of climbing still make it good for you – such as being outdoors and interacting with the natural environment in a more intimate way than most people do.
Climbing teaches you not just about yourself but also about others. I’ve been part of the mountaineering team for two years now, and I’ve seen many people’s lives transform as they progress to new levels in the sport. Higher grades on the climbing walls lead to a greater sense of achievement and confidence.
Everyone can relate to this feeling as they prepare for their exams. Climbing builds both your mental and physical strength, giving you a sense of accomplishment at the end of each climb that stays long after you reach the top.
